Mexico expands loans to low-income studentsCorporativo Laudex, a Mexican higher education financing company is supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) with a loan of up to MX$130 million (around US$10 million) to reach 14,000 low-income students by 2018. “The government’s goal of expanding higher education coverage from the current 29 percent to 40 percent by 2018 implies creating 2.1 million new spaces within the university system,” said IDB project team leader Francisco Hernandez.

The first ABA-approved online degree programWilliam Mitchell College of Law, U.S.A is the first to win American Bar Association(ABA) approval for degrees that students can earn learning online. The ABA, which accredits the law schools in U.S., has imposed strict limits on online classes for the past decade. However, now it has approved a pilot project at William Mitchell College of Law. “It moves them slightly forward into the 21st century,” said Robert Oliphant, a professor emeritus at William Mitchell who supports online teaching. “Law schools are about the last institutions in the world to try to change. They’re just very stuck in the mud.”
